WCW | Adriana of Anima Mundi Herbals

We announced a couple of weeks ago that we are now carrying Anima Mundi Herbals in our Georgetown Pop-Up Shop. We are so excited to have Adriana, the founder of Anima Mundi, on the blog today to answer some of our burning questions about herself and her story. Enjoy!

Q. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

A | I’m a rainforest herbalist born and raised in Costa Rica. I'm a lover of wildcrafting, making medicine and making healing foods. Constantly in search of finding new "undiscovered" medicines in the rainforest.

Q. What brought you to herbalism and creating Anima Mundi?

A | I used to practice as a clinical herbalist for some years. After seeing commons symptoms and needs amongst people from all walks of life, I began creating "mother formulas" that would cater to general maintenance. I started a product line focusing on different healing elements for mind body wellness.

Q. It must be hard to choose, but if you could choose your top 3 Anima Mundi products what would they be and why?

A | I love sprinkling our Qi on everything (energy + protein adaptogenic mix), our mangosteen-hibiscus during the day for vitamin C and beauty, and making a Blue Lotus in the evening for unwinding and meditative goodness.

Q. For those just getting into herbs, how do you recommend introducing them into a daily routine?

A| I think liquid tonics is an easy and potent way to introduce medicines into your routine and diet. You can add them into anything and you will truly start seeing effects fast. Using medicinal concentrates taste so good straight, or for those that aren't used to the medicinal taste, you can add it to anything and you won't hardly taste it.

Q. Is it okay to combine a lot of herbs at the same time or do you recommend keeping them separate?

A | I think sticking to a routine using a handful of herbs is ok. This way you can see the effects and track what each herb is actually doing to your mind and body. "Kitchen-sinking" yourself with formulas can generate a bit of confusion and nullify some of the effects that you may be after.

Q. What are some of your go-to places for nourishing food in NYC/Brooklyn?

A | Butchers Daughter and Angelica Kitchen are my favorite!

Q. What’s next for you and Anima Mundi?

A | I’m excited to start rainforest herbal retreats in the coming future. It'll be a great way to do wildcrafting in the magic of Costa Rica, incorporating medicine making, yoga and healing foods. Stay tuned!

Thank you so much, Adriana, for taking the time to chat with us and answer some of our questions about how to incorporate herbal medicine into our daily lives. We can’t wait to keep trying all of the Anima Mundi products!
